NY Studio Visits with Meghan Petras and Nick van Woert

While we were up in NY for Out Of Practice, we got to visit a couple studios, including Meghan Petras and Nick van Woert.

Petras, who works in her home-studio, makes her pieces on un-stretched canvas and stretches the compositions after they're painted. In some, she's cut up and re-sewn the canvas, creating seems and disjointed marks.

Meghan also makes ceramics (above) and rugs, which I did not photograph, but they're awesome!

Studio Visit with Steven Riddle

Today we visited Steven Riddle's studio to see his new works for his upcoming 3-person show at Nudashank. Steve makes collages using handmade source materials, made with screen printing, monotypes marker, acrylic, airbrush, spray paint and bleach.

Studio Visits With Tracy Thomason, Maria Walker and Stacy Fisher

This weekend we met up with the three artists in our next exhibition, Tracy Thomason, Maria Walker and Stacy Fisher, all of whom are Brooklyn-based. Tracy, Maria and Stacy make sculptural abstract paintings, each with a different approach and working with a separate set of materials.

Studio Visit with Brian Dunn

Brian Dunn is a painter who lives and works in DC. We met up with him this week at his studio to look at work for the upcoming four-person show, Color Me Bad (also featuring Joshua Abelow, Ted Gahl and Hugh Scott-Douglas) which opens February 19th.

We visited the studios of Benjamin Phelan and Edward Max Fendley in the past few weeks, picking up work for Horror Vacui (April) from Benjamin (who is currently touring with Yeasayer, doing the light installations for their live shows) and for Fountain Art Fair (March 4 - 6) from Ed.
