Curated by Alex Ebstein and Seth Adelsberger

Exhibition Runs: April 25 - May 31, 2012

Opening Reception: Thursday, May 3rd 5-8pm

Work Sites features three artists who make abstract work that either references or directly uses construction and building materials to create larger dialog about impermanence, waste, and the haphazard discard of these materials. Working in sculpture, digital prints, wall constructions each artist enters the conversation from a different perspective:

Lesser Gonzalez Alvarez creates highly stylized sculptures and digital images that pull from found images of halted building projects, and abandoned interiors. Using a design sensibility, and Adobe software, Alvarez masks these scenes in rainbow gradients and glossy textures, reinserting a sense of potential while highlighting the ubiquity of both contemporary design and ruins.

Jack Henry uses found trash and industrial biproducts along with plaster, resin and cement to create layered, composite sculptures. His colored cross sectioned slabs and plinths appear as condensed, anthropological samples taken from landfills.

Andrew Laumann uses the decaying urban landscape as fodder for found object sculptures, photography, and painterly constructions. His work addresses gritty street aesthetics with the abundance of abandoned construction materials.
